What Yoga Means to Me

To live is the rarest thing in the world. Most people exist, that is all. — Oscar Wilde
The other day at yoga, one of my instructors said something along the lines of the practice of yoga is not doing the perfect yoga pose. I agree with her—while getting into/being able to perform a pose is very exciting and awesome, if you can not or are not able to, that is perfectly okay. We each are on our own journeys!
To me, yoga is not a competition, it is not a sport. To me, it is about cultivating a deeper understanding of yourself. To me, it is about finding what works for you and not worrying and comparing yourself to your neighbor. To me, it is about not knowing what is going to happen and being okay with just that. To me, it is letting go of what you ‘think’ is supposed to and needs to happen. To me, it is about believing you can do something—heck, anything—even if you never thought you could. To me, it is about exploring yourself without pushing yourself over your limits. To me, it is about remembering to breathe even when times get rough. To me, it is about remembering to be kind to yourself. To me, it is a constant work in progress…
These are just some of my thoughts. What does yoga mean to you? Thank you so much for reading!…And oh, please excuse the belly flash.
Below is an image (not mine) that I wanted to share. Find your peace.
Much love,
Emily
